Simple Green
 

I have been using Simple Green to clean my wheels. Works great. Also, works great to remove any bug guts on the front bumper or road-grease in random areas.

My question is, does Simple Green remove my wax? FYI, I am using Zaino on the car and Meguires Tech Wax NTX (?) on the wheels.

Here is the response I received from Sal Zaino (within 30 minutes too...great Customer Service):


Simple Green is very harsh and can remove and dull Zaino..

For removal of stubborn bug guts, bird droppings, tar, grease, etc....

Try Wd-40. Spray a little on the bug guts. Let soak for about 40 seconds
and remove with a clean dry 100% cotton towel. Repeat if necessary. Then
rinse with water to remove any oil residue from the Wd-40. Do not do
this procedure in direct sunlight! Do not use any abrasive polish or compounds.
If you use a product that contains abrasives you will put swirls and fine
scratches
in your paint finish.

If the bug gits are still not coming off. You need to use Z-18 ClayBar.

Some bug guts are very acidic and will eat right into the paint. If you
have a couple of coats of Zaino on your car. At least the bug guts will eat into
the Zaino first..

I've been using Collinite #845 Insulator Wax for years to remove bug guts and
tar from my vehicles. Collinite wax products are hard to find in stores (but can
be found on the internet). This insulator wax has zero abrasives and will not
remove any existing wax products from your car.

Actually, for shine and protection, I find Collinite #845 and Collinite #915 very
hard to beat.

Agree Sal Zaino is a helluva guy, hope you have the chance to meet him in person sometime - he's a hoot! I've always said that the Zaino Brothers are the automotive equivalent of Ben & Jerry...

WD-40 will work and will flash off without hurting the paint. Personally, I prefer PrepSol and have not found it to adversely affect the finish...

OK, Jim, I may have you beat! I have not met Mr. Zaino, but I have met Ben Cohen from Ben & Jerry's! During a meeting with him, he actually presented a bar graph made out of Oreo cookies! One of his all-time favorite foods!!

Oh you people have just opened up a can of worms...

I boarded a Continental flight and sat next to Patrick Duffy. He turned around and said something to a travel companion behind him, and it was none other than Larry Hagman and his wife. The voice was unmistakeable. They were in LA for Johnny Carson's funeral last year. I'm just old enough to remember their hay days of TV.

However, nothing beats my memory of sitting next to Robert Englund (Freddie Krueger) on a flight a couple of years back. He was a complete jackass to me and everyone on the plane. He actually turned his back to me after I asked him what brought him to Memphis... I did not recognize him without his makeup and really didn't care who he was.

Prolly not the best story to use as my third post, but I punched Jeremy Piven in his face once.

I have a Patrick Duffy tale as well Back in the summer of 1980 Patrick Duffy stayed at a Hyatt Hotel I was Managing. It was standard for the Manager to greet significant VIPs.

For you more experienced folk, you may remember that this was the Summer of the famous Who Shot JR cliffhanger season finale.

Anyway, our Bell Captain gathered his luggage from the Limo and the three of us went upstairs to his Suite. I was schmoozing Duffy (really nice guy) and when we got to his Suite, I put my Master key in the door, but stopped, turned to him and said "You realize I'm not going to open this door 'til I find out who shot JR..." He replied "Well, I guess I'm sleeping in the hallway then, because we don't know, they are worling with several scripts and scenarios and we don't even know which one will be used... besides, there's a Writer's Guild strike on and we're honoring that, so until that's settled, I'm not saying anything to anyone..."

He stayed with us a week during which he asked me to dine with him one evening. A really nice, down to earth guy...

Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti - my wife and I were at the Delano in South Beach, eating at a table next to them. They invited us over to have dessert and cognac - most amazing blue eyes you've ever seen.

Tiger Woods - had dinner w/ he and his Fiance' with my wife after one of my wife's tourneys

Dave Madden - '92 SuperBowl, Dave stayed with us and had the Madden Cruiser parked in our Lot for the week - really nice guy, but I had to ask him to quit inviting the Housekeepers into the Bus and giving them Beer while on Duty.

Fran Tarkington - kept a Suite at our Hotel during the season as his family lived in Atlanta - Great QB, not such a nice person

Cal Ripkin Jr. - during a 3-game stance in Mpls. to play the Twins. He was at 2997 Career Hits and with all the publicity hype about getting #3,000, the Orioles put Cal up in a small Boutique Hotel I was managing and away from the Team and the Press. I had coffee with him on the morning of 4/15 and wished him well in his series with the Twins. Later that day, Cal hit #s 2,998, 2,999 and #3,000. An equipment manager from the Orioles came to the Hotel to pack his belongings, but Cal never returned, so I didn't get the chance to congratulate him :(

Kevin Garnett - Same Boutique Hotel, Kevin was coming in to have a pre-signing workout with the Timberwolves. Only 17, Kevin was shy and kept calling me Sir. A pretty nice guy whom success hasn't spoiled like so many Pro Atheletes.

As I said, this is just a partial list, one of the perks of managing some of the marquis hotels I was privledged to work for. It's been interesting meeting most of these people and the one thing you come away with is that they are just folks, much different than their public personas. If you're Star Struck, they won't give you the time of day, but treat them as you would anyone else, and they find that refreshing and will really open up...

I met Sandra Bullock in an elevator and that is all I am going to say about that!
