Seat questions
 

I pulled the passenger seat out of my 2000 box s. I noticed a tag underneight that said recaro. My guess is these are not porsche covers. Correct? Second the seat has four brass color plugs on the rAil that have springs attached to them. What are those for?

I think that Recaro may be the OEM supplier of seats to Porsche. I believe they have several divisions including OEM, racing, aircraft and military applications.

Do you have full-power seats or the manual seats with automated backrest? If you have manual seats, I expect that the springs and plugs are part of the manual adjustment mechanism.

It's an oft repeated story and a kind of fun fact to know (but I suspect many already do).
The beginning of Recaro was the company named Reutter which built the 356 bodies until Porsche bought them in 1963. At that point, Reutter kept the seat business and changed their name to Recaro. Tom

Well that is good to know. Is there any wAy to bypass. I am doing the water pump and I was hoping I could run before I put the seat back in. That was a close one.

The springs and plugs control the pins that lock the slider in position after you adjust.

To run the car with no seat, either have a durametric to clear the airbag light, or plug in a seatbelt. You probably don't want to remove it from your removed seat (wiring hassles) but maybe you can buy/rent one from Woody to use. A dealer can also clear the code but I am unsure of cost.

When I did my WP I ran with the seat out and the cover removed so I could watch the belt, be prepared for a lot of heat and odd sounds, and for sure don't stick an arm back there if driving :)

I do have a durametric. So are we saying the airbags will go off or just the light? I will likely just put back together and then run. Thanks

You can run the car with no seat and the airbag light will illuminate. Once you are done and the seat reinstalled you can clear the airbag light using the durametric.

While the airbag light is lit, I don't know I the airbags are enabled or not.
