Boxster's don't photograph well
Am I the only one that thinks Boxster's don't look as good in pictures as they do in person? They seem out of proportion in photos. Especially with a hardtop or 03/04 top. In person though, they look so damn sexy even with the hardtop or 03/04 top! I catch myself just starting like a deer in headlights at my boxster all the time. I know I'm bias, but the 986 is a great looking car.

I agree, much better in person, however of all the colors, Black is the most photogenic IMHO :)

Something magical happens in the early morning light with a black 986. Add some rain and its quite alluring too. Those folks that don't let their Boxster get wet don't know what they are missing. |
Like any model, they have their "good sides." I think the rear 3/4 view is the best and the straight-on side profile the worst.
But, for a 20-year old design, I agree - they have really held up well. I like 'em! |

OK here we go

:) I think they photograph really well.

No, they definitely look better in real life. Does anything look as good in photos?

Everything looks ten pounds heavier in photographs but I think Boxsters look great except for the front shots down low then they kinda look like frogs.

A lot depends on who's taking the pictures. I'll say Wallace River takes some sexy pics of his yellow Box.

Front- down- low looks more like a Great White if the car is Arctic Silver
Look out! |

I've taken far too many and have very few that I like, so I agree.
This is probably the only one that I really like. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...00000000B3.jpg |

OK, maybe it's just mine in side profile I don't like.
http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/a...pskstdtyzv.jpg Yours in silver looks great! I like mine from 3/4 rear. http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/a...psvmoi4eqn.jpg PS: First State native here! Driving down on Sat, but - alas - not in the Box. |

Teenage girls. They tend to look a lot better on Instagram then in real life haha. |

Woody, you might as well have said, "Post your favorite Boxster picture."
Looking over the posts and some of the better pictures here, I really think that lighting and reflection add a lot. These curves really show off in a low angle light. Here are two that I think are bad. From the CL add I bought my first Box from: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1451004568.jpg This angle makes her butt look fat and lighting is flat: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5798/...bdf860a5_b.jpgbad angle These two I like the angle on the car, and the lighting. Low angle of the lighting shows off the curves: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5654/...f2b01fd3_b.jpgsunrise3 Carrying the reflected colors: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1697/...3f18bb74_b.jpgsunrise-Vister2 *I am no expert in photography, but I did take the 'photo-101' class once. |

Black is the best

I would tend to agree with this.
I also think they photograph considerably better with the top up. The doors aren't very deep and this gets accentuated with the longish overhangs of the 986 and the smaller side air inlets. With the top up it seems to somehow help mask some of the weaker points of the design. Of course for a vehicle that was designed probably 20 years ago now I'd say it does pretty well. Abbreviated overhangs didn't come along until far after, so it's obviously understandable. Further to this however, because of the strong family resemblance of Porsches, in my experience those less initiated seem to have no idea what model year a 986 is and assume it's only a few years old. On the 987 they stubbied the car up by squaring off the front end and I think that makes a big difference in the visual balance of the car. Then on the 981 they took the opportunity to address the back end by adding some heft to it which sorts out the design even further. I've found that there's certain angles that work better when photographing the car, and crouching down to take the photo can also work sometimes. |
Photographers take bad photographs, not the subjects of the photographer.
