Convertable top interchangeability

Hey guys I have a 99 Boxster. The top is in okay condition. I may be able to buy a complete original top and mechanism in better shape from a 2002 S for a couple hundred. I like the black color better. Window is still clear. Are the tops interchangeable and easy to swap out? Thanks!

Yep. Even better for you if you could find one from an 03 or 04, then you'd have the glass window.

Jdraupp is right.. try to get a glass window one if possible. i picked one up in pristine condition for 500$ on the frame. it took 40 minutes to swap it, it's just 6 bolts and a hand from someone else.

no more boxster chop for me!! well.. i still have to get out of the car because i'm in manual mode :D damn it!!!

6 bolts thats it? Might be easier than doing a canvas replacement with window

3 bolts and 2 small phillips head screws on each side of my 2000 Box

Thanks guys. I would rather have the glass, but this may be too good of a deal to pass

Note on swapping tops. Took me and Woody darn near two hours to do this "simple six bolt" swap on my car. If we had the opportunity to do it again, we would have marked exactly where the old top sat (fore, aft, up, and down) to get those stinking bolts in the holes the first time we tried. UGH!!!!

Thanks Randall! Your awesome!

RandallNeighbour 12-10-2015 07:53 AM

Thanks, but I wasn't feeling very awesome attempting to put on that new top that day, that's for sure! I felt more like a village idiot to tell you the truth.

Plus, it was 98 degrees and humid and we were not working in the shade.

I must say though that I uttered a couple of Sunday School words and Woody kept his cool the entire time. I wish I possessed his patience.

i know it probably wont make you feel a lot better but back then i was following your post and reading about marking where the old top sat made my swap quick and painless :)
