Coolant?
I need to add coolant to my car. Is there a specific brand that I need to use? I have 06 987s.
Thanks |
I called the dealer (my closest dealer is 4 hours away) and he said anything that said lifetime on it was acceptable (prestone). I am still a little hesitant and my car needs coolant also. What say anybody else? I don't have the time right now to drive 4 hours.

Hi,
What you want is a Silicate-Free coolant such as Prestone 5/150 or such. Really, any Silicate-Free coolant is compatible. Silicate-Free coolants generally are labelled as "Extended Life", and will always have the words "Silicate-Free" on the label. Be sure you use Distilled Water when you mix it up! Hope this helps... OK...dumb question...how do I know if I need to add any coolant!
Bolkar, why do you need coolant already? |
Bmus,
Open the trunk, look at the coolant resevoir on the right hand side. There are min and max lines. |
That piece of plastic is almost opaq, is very hard to see the liquid behind. Finally couple days ago I got a warning to check my coolant level.

if it is just a little bit low, you can add distilled water only to get it over the min level. i suggest letting the car sit over night, so the coolant goes to the lowest level. then add enough distilled water to get it over the min mark.
