Pleasant Insurance Surprise!!!
Having recently acquired my car, i was a bit nervous how much the insurance cost would increase from my old ride (MB e320)--- Have to admit i was pleasantly surprised-- about $200 per year more--- (total was $920) ---
What is funny (or sad from my wallet's prespective) is that my son (19yo) drives a crappy little Suzuki Reno and his insurance is twice mine.....( yeah... he's a disaster ---speeding, running a red, speeding again... arrrrrggggghhhh!!!) Was i EVER that dumb??????
Anyway... The new dream didn't impact me as hard as i thought it would....
(For those of you wondering WHY i didnt check it out in advance------c'mon you really think i'd give the B&C anything she could have used to argue against the purchase ----MAN LOGIC 101!)

Mine's not bad really....well for a 23-year old with a 2002 Boxster S that is. Damn, I need to hurry up and turn 25. Or get married. Or both.

Insurance is kind of weird in my case too.
It cost more to insure my wife's 2001 MB E320 4 Matic ($356) than my brand new 987S ($336)! Exact same coverage. These are 6-month policies with State Farm.

You guys are paying through the nose! My 2000S only costs me $385/year through Liberty Mutual. I'm 33, I live in BFE and I've got a multicar discount.

This is a pretty broad statement! You need to consider location and the actual, deductables and policy coverage too.

New Jersey we have more cars and lawyers than people.
$1,100 every six months. 32 year old single guy.
Not one speeding ticket or accident in 10 years of driving and I only drive the thing on weekends. I actually ride a bicycle everyday to get to the mass transit train!
Leland West has low insurance for you guys whith more than one car who keep their baby boxsters in the garage.

Porsche told me that, your insurance would be a lot higher if you have an old model car. Your insurance would be cheaper if your buying a new model like 2000 to 2005

It's all based on replacement and repair costs. I don't see why an older car would cost more in insurance, unless it's ALOT older where the car's rare and parts are no longer in production.

Don't forget an old car will have less technology to protect against theft (liked chipped keys and alarms), less technology to protect its occupants against fatalities (like air bags, and side impact protection) and less technology to actually avoid accidents (like ABS and PSM). Thes things too must impact insurance rates. Just a thought.

They do give discounts for airbags and abs, but it's hard to believe it's enough to bring the rate under an older car.

My wife brought to my attention that my Insurance states that I have a Carrera GT. Now, this was news to me since I was pretty sure I'd bought a Boxster. Still, I was certainly interested to find out if I did indeed buy a Carrera GT. Apparently my wife was still married to me, no iminent foreclosure on my house, and the car in the garage said "Boxster".
While obviously disappointed, I called my insurance agent to point out the error. After numerous clicks and clacks in the background I heard, "That's weird". Apprently, changing my car from a Carrera GT to a Boxster actually RAISED my rates. Seeing as I've been with the same insurance guy for over 20 years, we kept it at the lower rate. So, as far as the world is concerned (or at least the insurance world), I own a Carrera GT. HA! And I did it without even knowing it. I'm hoping I "pick up" an Enzo when I buy some shoes tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Hi,
I agree with you except for the part about the ABS and PSM reducing the likelyhood of an collision.
True, these things offer the Driver better control so that they can maneuver away from an immanent impact, but statictically, the number of collisions has not been correspondingly reduced. Your application will ask if your Car is so equipped, but it isn't really reflected in the rates charged, because like most insurance, those who don't need it end up paying for those who do.
This is because people are not taught to actually use these innovations when the need arises. Most still Freeze, Grab the Wheel tightly, and Brace for Impact. This why I believe that DE and Auto-X are benefitial for the average Driver, because they gain confidence and the knowledge of what their Car can do, and this translates into better day-to-day driving...
Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
