Removing seats

I need to remove the seats from my car to get them restored. Do I need to disconnect the battery or anything special before I unbolt them?

No, but if you turn on your ignition with them removed you'll get an airbag fault light that will have to be reset by someone with the proper equipment.

The large electrical connector under the seat (if you have the full electric seats) can be tricky at times, but no need to disconnect the power. And yes, don't turn on the ignition switch once the connector is disassembled or you will trigger the seat belt warning light.

I have removed mine frequently to change racing seats in and out, and you will latch the warning light on. I bypassed the small connector to ensure the light worked OK.

Have a strong back or a helper - the stock seats are incredibly heavy!

And be careful....

taking them out as the mounting rails have lots of sharp edges that could easily scratch leather or vinyl surfaces. Its easier with the top down.

Another common problem is disconnecting the wiring from the seats. Don't just blindly pull the connector. There is a little sliding locking mechanism on one side. Just pull it out and then it disconnects easily.

Also, when they are out check the webbing underneath. My '03 driver's seat was sagging and it turned out the webbing was completely ripped, resulting in nothing holding the foam padding up. I did a little DIY repair with some Plexiglas, wood strapping and slip ties. Now I'm back to riding high in the saddle :)
