Not sure what this does

This button (middle one) looks like a rear defrost button but I have a plastic rear window (2001) so I'm not sure what it is for.

It is for your rear window defrost when you upgrade to the glass window top. They conveniently installed it for you. It is originally there for the hard top rear window option (glass)

Doesn't it also defrost side mirrors?

Timco 11-07-2015 06:30 PM

Ejection seat. Mine has that option. Been very tempted but never tried it yet.

Yes, heats side mirrors and also hardtop defroster if attached.

It is like the one in Seymour Goldfarb (son of Seymour Goldfarb and heir to the Goldfarb girdle fortune) Jr's car; never works when you want it to.

Actually this is the Ejection seat option button

If you peel the sticker off, it may reveal this option:

or my favorite for evasion and getting rid of tailgaters.

There are lots of owners manuals for sale on eBay.

Pominoz 11-09-2015 12:52 PM

useful

The guy who had the car before me, wired the de-mist switch up to operate the on board computer. It's sort of handy and I don't think I'll ever need the de-mist option.

I appreciate your input.

I can place an order on eBay today, wait 3-7 days for my manual to arrive and then look up what that button is for. That seems like a WAY better solution than to ask a whole bunch of Boxster enthusiasts!

Sorry if you felt I wasted your time.

Don't worry about it, that's what the forums for questions. I wouldn't take it to heart. It is nice the wirings there if you ever replace the top with a glass window one you can connect the defroster.
Some of you guys have some cool James Bond options.:D

Don't worry about wasting anyone's time on the forum. By definition you are not. Sometimes folks make a comment they shouldn't have. I sure am glad I have never done that.
