replacing air filter with K&N

Hey gyus!!

What is your opinion about replacing the air filter with that?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/33-2773-Performance-Filter-Porsche-Boxster/dp/B00062Z0WA/ref=au_as_r?ie=UTF8&n=248877031&newVehicle=1&s=aut omotive&submodelId=16859

What are the actual benefits?

In a word: None. Car may make more noise, but if there is too much oil on the filter it will end up on your MAF and cause problems. We have never seen any advantage to these filters, but have had to deal with their downsides. Stay with your throw away paper unit.

The benefits are none, other than getting a new MAF because the K&N is over oiled.

Does nyone use it? how does it increase horsepower?

JayG 10-26-2015 01:42 PM

Yea, it give you 50 more HP
You can get 100 HP increase if you replace your blinker fluid

IF there is in fact an increase in HP, it is only due to a slightly increased air flow and therefore it is filtering less. Effectively it would have bigger holes in the filter material and that means larger dirt particles pass into your engine. Any (if in act any) HP increase is negligible at best

Stay with the paper disposable filter and check it at least twice a year, more if you drive in a dusty or dirty environment

See response from JFP in PA. Better yet, you should start using the search feature as I'm pretty sure this has been beaten to death.

thank you all for your feedback!! I will stay with current air filter!! :)

mariosp 10-27-2015 12:24 PM

is there any safe way to increase the hp at least 5%?

Ben006 10-27-2015 01:18 PM

Underdrive pulleys seem to have good results it terms of power gain.

PCA sticker on the windshield.

The Other Side

I use K&N in all my vehicles… It’s one of the first things I install. DO NOT SPRAY TOO MUCH OF THE TACKY OIL ON THE FILTER. LET THE OIL DRY BEFORE INSTALLING THE FILTER (I normally let it bake in the sun for a couple hours). I have never had to replace a MAF sensor, ever. I have over 282,000 miles on the Jӓgermobile and have not bought another air filter. I can’t imagine how many paper filters I would have bought by now.

I replaced my paper one with a K&N last summer and it was great... I used barely any of the oil when installing it. You might be lucky to get 0.025% HP increase assuming your old filter was clogged up and not working properly.
