strange noise after engine starts...
hello again!!
Today after the engine starts normally, a strange loud noise with duration 1 second is coming up from the car....what is that? is it a symptom? of IMS? started worried.... note that...did that noise come up once before while I was trying to swtich on the car the engine failed to start then I turn the key again and the car goes on normally but this was 2 weeks ago. |
Sound like this?

Yup, probably the starter solenoid getting sticky. Solution 1: change the starter. Solution 2: take the starter out, take it apart, clean the parts , new lithium grease, and Bob's yer uncle! Piece o' cake!

The common starter screech immediately came to mind. I'm starting to think they all do it. Both of mine do occasionally. I'm guessing that's what you're hearing.

I guess I know what my next project is. I really dig how just reading this forum thread cost me money.

Be sure to disconnect the battery before beginning the repair.

Definitely one of the easier jobs. I had to purchase the 18" extension for my 15mm socket. I of course thought that wasn't needed and tried from the top. What a mistake, I started accidentally yanking hoses out and removing hoses and I still couldn't get the bottom bolt off.
If you follow pelican's instructions it's straightforward. http://clubweb.net/photos/986_Starter.jpg |
How much is the starter?

Autozone special.. $134 with $50 core exchange. It took them 1 day to get the part in.
