service wear on brake pads

hello friends!

After a long time I am back!,I had very busy schedule at work. all well done!

My Porsche show me this message on the board with red letters and disappeared
"service wear on break pads". This notification was showed only one day then nothing
Does this mean I need to replace the brake pads urgently? which one? front back? and when? is it a warning like 70% of the pads life?

your advice is appreciated !

thanks
Marios

The boxster has a wear sensor and when the pads get worn to the point where the sensor contacts the rotor that light comes on. Look for yourself. It means your pads are worn and need changing. You need to look at your pad thickness and decide how long you can go.

Could just be a bad connection to the sensor. Measure the remaining thickness of your pads to determine if replacement is warranted. Going by memory now, but I think the minimum thickness allowed is 2mm. Check that.

While you are at it, have a look at your rotors. If the lip on the edge is more than 1mm then they need to be replaced too.

And just ignore anyone chiming in about how the lip on worn rotors can cut your brake sensor wires. They are just messing with you.

If one pad is low enough to trigger a sensor, replace them all.

I'll bet Porsche will cover entire cost of repair in appreciation for you letting them know about their error message spelling mistake ;)

No need to replace sensors... If you're going to be diligent about checking pads/rotors for wear, you can kill error message by shorting out the sensor (at plug is easiest and makes most sense):

Be sure to adequately seal up spliced ends to protect from elements (I solder together and then double heat shrink tube 'em.).

Good luck :)
