Looking at this car, any thoughts, ta

Hi all, I am looking to buy another Boxster after being away for a couple of years. I previously had a 1998 2.5 and have really missed the experience.

I am looking at the bellow car, could I please take this opportunity to ask for some advice regarding the car. I have spoken to the dealers a few times but have forgotten to ask some questions such as how many owners, if clutch has been done, anything else I should be asking, many thanks in advance.

It would bother me that they felt the need to photo shop the photos. Makes me not trust them right away. It's never good to stat out with a lie.

Very nice looking car!

Ask for the full service history and get an independent PPI. That should tell you what you need to know to make a decision and what to offer.

If I calculated this correctly, that is +/- $20,000.00 in USD. It is high for LA/California dealer pricing per KKB.com. Private party suggests +/- $18K USD. It seems to be a buyers market here. Get an independent PPI, if they will co-operate with you. They appear to be a high end dealer? and the price reflects that IMO.

Ask for a discount. The wheel is on the wrong side......:D

Leave your heart at home and make a reasonable/low offer and then let them sit on it for a while. How many convertibles are they selling this time of year in Scotland? Those rims are really nice.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

One thing I noticed was the front towing eye was missing, don't know why they would take pics with it missing unless the car didn't have it when they got it !!!

Yes I am going to get a PPI done it to see if any issues.

Steering wheel on wrong side, lol, cool I will get some money knocked off, thanks again chaps.

It looks really nice, I would take it for a test drive unless you already have. I'm not sure about pricing in Scotland, but I would offer a few pounds less than their asking price. I would also ask if they have any service records, but it does look nice in the photos.
Good Luck, I hope you can work out a deal!

When you get the PPI done ask the mechanic to check the oil filter for any metal or foreign crud. Get the codes read too. Ask me how I know....

Cheers, Guy

Hi, thanks guys.

If the price is right then I hope we strike a deal.

Do tell Recycled, what happened.

HI Craig,
I was into the 3rd year of ownership of my 2001 Boxster base. Most of everybody has heard about mine. Got a CEL light. Camshaft deviation out of tolerance and got green crud in the oil filter. Likely chain guide rails disintegrating. I let the prospective buyer know what was going on and sold as is. I did however drive it in our cold winters and I think that this is really hard on the motor. Scotland does not get the extreme temps we get here.

Don't let me discourage you from your P plans. My next sports car will be a used Miata which I have had before. Considerably cheaper to run but less car than a Boxster. The car after the next Miata will likely be a you guessed it a P car of some description. I have no regrets of having a Boxster in my past. The most fun motoring in my life.

PM sent Craig.
Cheers, Guy

This car doesn't have a lot of factory options:

heated seats
sport seats
red seat belts

+ an aftermarket nav

It would be worth more if it was heavy loaded with options, but this one is pretty light. Factor that into your offer.

Hi chaps, changed car plans, think I am putting deposit on the below car. Don't want to give the impression that I am 'under the thumb' but my wife prefers the colour and to be honest I prefer the wheels and car details. I like the history details of the car with the advert V5, HPI, Service history, RAC inspection.

Hi, heading down to get the car on Friday. Managed to get a good deal I think! so can't wait to get it. Driving back up to Glasgow will give me an excellent opportunity to get to know the car, I will of course give it a thorough going over in the test drive before I pay for the car.

Update on Friday :)

Sammy986 10-28-2015 12:53 PM

The old one gave out on you Cubby?

cubbyno9 10-28-2015 01:08 PM

Hi Sammy, if you mean the old 986 2.5 I had? No it was fine, I sold it as I was about to upgrade to a 987 but it fell through, I have only just back into position to get another so this one ticked the boxes. My wife wanted me to get another Tiptronic but as I wanted to get a 3.2 I wanted a manual.
Fingers crossed all goes well on Friday.....

Just collected my new to me 2006 3.2S today and had a fantastic drive back home from Northampton. The car goes like a dream and is so much faster than my old 2.5.
So glad I went with the 3.2 rather than the 2.7, the performance is addictive.
Will take the kids out for a blast tomorrow and put a big smile on their face.
Thanks for everyone's help and advice.

Craig
