Top problem

Ok so I think I'm similar here. My top will go down but it stops four or five times so I release the button and press again and it continues Down. Then on the way up it stops about every two inches. Again I release the button and repress to get it to move. When in the up position, the top warning light stays on. The eBrake light comes on and goes off correctly. The windows drop down the two inches when the top latch is released.
Is it a motor problem or switch issue? It's killing me. I've got an airbag warning light for something loose with the turn signals; clicking noise when turning steering wheel, check engine light, engine running a bit hot, and now the problem with the top. My dash looks like Christmas lights. Appreciate the assist.

Now, looking at switches, I lowered it all the way and it won't go up at all. I can hear the motor to raise it clicking on when I hit the button but it is like there is no power to lift.

hi John! i love the holidays as much as the next guy but that sounds very frustrating :)

i have issues with my top as well and from what i've learned it could be the relay, one of the microswitches or the top/clamshell is not aligned. been trying to figure mine out for a while with no luck. my next step is to swap relays with someone to see if that might be the culprit.

in your case it sounds like it could be the plastic gears inside the transmission broke. if thats the case you could just buy metal gears for them, you can find them as aftermarket parts separately. i would open up the transmissions to see.

your clicking is probably from the "clock" looking thing where the wheel mounts, if that is not aligned properly it would do that.
airbag light might be the connector inside the wheel itself. either way it sounds like you have to take the wheel off. it should be easy to diagnose and fix.

i'm in Miami if you need any help with that i could give you a hand, i've learned a few things about the top transmission and steering wheel.

good luck!!

This problem and the repair would make a wonderful video ? It will be interesting to read about the diagnosis and repair.

Yes, I would be very interested in this repair as my top is doing the exact same thing.
