16" wheels on a 2003 S?

Neighbor wants to sell me some 16s for snow tires, but I did a search and it sounds like they won't work on a 2003 S (don't clear the calipers?). Can anyone verify if that's true or not? TIA !

Correct. You need a minimum 17" wheel to clear the red Brembos.
16's will work fine on a base, but not an an S.
