Cs? St? R? Rs? Rsr? Gts? Gt4?

so, if I've put a lot of energy into lightening my car, improving brakes and suspension, and lightly 'breathing' on my engine, what Porsche moniker would be the most applicable?

the early 70's had the 'ST', it was lightened and race prepped, but came flared and with a bigger engine. my car is not quite there yet.

then there are the RS and RSR cars. these are full-on race cars and, again, my car is not quite there yet.

there is the 'R' designation, first used in the late 60's for a stripped, race prepped 911. again, the 60's version was up-engined. however the latest recipient of the R moniker is the cayman, and in this version it keeps the same engine as its 'S' sibling, so this might be an option - 986 R.

there are the GTS and GT4 designations also used for the latest 981 cars. these seem pretentious to me as they allude to a class of racing that my car could not compete in.

finally there is the 'CS' or Clubsport designation used for the 968 and 964 cars in the early 90's. similar to 'R" cars, these are lightweight, track-prepped versions of their 'S' brethren, so perhaps another option - 986 CS or 986 Clubsport.

so whaddaya figger? Renn or Clubsport?

I'd go 986L for light?
or 986PMC for poor man's car.

RK - I'd go w/ CS for what you're doing. If anybody flips you any grief call it a CS "Tribute". Tribute - that's what the earlier 911 guys do when they build their car into something it wasn't. And I don't hear anything but "Oohs and Ahhs" over a Tribute car done up nice.

BTW - I'm still interested in the goodies we've discussed earlier when you're ready to move them. Those pieces are part of my Boxster GT "Tribute" I'm building. :D

To be fair. I'm sure a few more grams could be saved in rebadging the car.

My vote is on club sport though as I think it fits the era of the car the best.

I like Clubsport or CS.

Lightened car with improved suspension takes the Targa Florio 1-2-3..... RSK!!!

Call it a 986 cs and call it a day. That would look great!

RS seemed most appropriate for my car. I cut both the r and the s from an old Boxster emblem, did finishing work with model car putty, and hit all of it with satin black.
If you go CS and want to stay lower case, maybe the o in Boxster can be worked into a c.

That looks really good.

bringing this back. in the spirit of building a clubsport car, a review of the badging available showed that there is only a 'cs' designation that was added after the 968. clubsport cars also got a 'club sport' side stripe. I discovered two things, however; there was also a fender decal option, and that there was also a 1-year run (1988) of a 911 clubsport that had no badging except the fender decal (the right fender only, apparently).

here are the 944 and 911 fender decal options:

and

any photoshop friends able to sketch something like this on a 986 (specifically the 911 version which seems a bit cooler)?

Wow, that fender decal on the white 911 is cool.

The new GT4 has the Clubsport logo as well....maybe '986 Clubsport' in lightweight decal on the back and/or side?
