"wobble" noise

a couple of days ago i noticed a wobble noise that after thinking about it sounded like when the water pump started failing.

this was a little upsetting since it was only 30k miles since it was replaced. parked the car for a few days.

today went to remove the covers and check for play in the pump and instead saw this...

the belt was shot! i knew it was getting time to replace it (last replacement was 57k miles ago) and luckily i had already ordered it last month.

replaced and all seems well again.

i honestly was thinking it would be the water pump since the only thing i have had to do since early 2012 was regular maintenance - oil changes and tires.

the last "major" item was the AOS and cracked coolant tank in march 2012. (i just jinxed myself and tomorrow the engine will explode...)

i checked the belt earlier this year and there didn't seem to be any issues...

so get out there, check your belts! especially if you're getting close to 60k since the last replacement.

Did you look to see if any bits are stuck in the drive pulley grooves? I had squishy sound and had to use a dental pick devise to scrape stuck rubber chunks from all around the grooves.
