15 Yr Old Boxster S vs $100K Supercars
Drop a 3.6 or a V8 in a Boxster and I bet it would do well against the other cars
Nice article.....don't get how he was able to get those wide tires on stock rims and not have problems....yes I am illiterate when it comes to wheel and tire fitment
I could not get an additional $80K worth of enjoyment out of any car over the box even if I paid $250K for a new car.
With the 3.6, big brakes, updated suspension, and weight loss these cars are faster on track than a lot of more expensive cars.
What I liked is that the Boxster with a few simple modifications was able to run all day long and was the writers tool to learn the track. What other 11 year car can you do that with. Not many.
I was somewhat disappointed that the author didn't post any actual lap times and/or speeds/g's around the track.
I'd bet that the Boxster was able to keep up very closely with the supercars in the corners and, of course, lost time on the straights due to the horsepower differences. |
I was disappointed too but figure the magazine is not going to post times that makes the cars that the manufacturers lend them for testing look bad. Would have been nice and certainly would create demand for our undervalued Boxsters.
I just bought a MY02 S with a mind to turning it over quickly.
I don't have the car until Tuesday, but I'm already realising it's going to be difficult not to get attached to it... Great little read, thanks for sharing [emoji106] |

Cool article, and I wonder if it was a paid placement for the Falken Azenis RT615-TK:

Mine has never done that thankfully, I wonder what the cause was? Garden variety overheating? Very cool article and it would have been nice to have some lap times and comparisons. Maybe when the full supercar article comes out they will have a sidebar with Boxster info? |
