Putting on some "cornering weight"?
The latest issue of Automobile is showing the curb weight og the 987S is 3100 pounds. The 2000 986S is listed at 2855. 245 pounds is a severe overeating problem!

*woop* *woop* pull over, that ass too fat.

All those extra ponies are bound to weigh something.

According to Porsches own literature, unladen weight of a six-speed 2004 986S is 2,910 lbs. The 2005 987S is 2,965 lbs. Perhaps you saw a figure for a Tip 987S, which is 3053 lbs.

Couple things, my guess is that the mag you're referencing did not cite the unladen weight of the 987S, a definition of which I found as:
The weight of the vehicle inclusive of the weight of water, fuel or accumulators used for the purpose of the supply of power for its propulsion and of loose tools, but exclusive of the weight of any other load or of a person. The second being that there was a weight gain between 2000 and 2004 for the 986 (not surprising when considering the model evolution) and obviously, there was a weight gain from 986-987, with the point being that the difference between 2000 and 2005 was incremental. |
