Very slow moving gas guage needle

My 986 has a very slow moving gas guage needle after filling the tank. It will take 5 or more minutes to actually show that the tank is 4/4. Is this normal or do I have some sort of short or low voltage issue going on?

Mine shows full immediately after fill up...as soon as I get back in the car and turn the ignition on. ;)

Mine too, although I have had cars that did that. Usually it was older cars that had a sticky float or bad sending unit.

(well, technically it will show the oil gauge first for about a minute, then show the gas gauge on full)

Add me to the list of people who's car does not do that. As soon as I turn the key the dial points to just over 4/4.

I have found it quizzical that the gauge drops from full to 3/4s really quick then the rate of drop slows for the next two quarters of the tank.

I always fill up before the light even comes on if not right after, but it worries me that the guage moves quick at both the bottom end and top.

Just use the trip mileage here. Mine only travels from 3/4 to 1/4. Sending unit was replaced by previous owner and don't feel like paying a dealer to calibrate the gauge.

My doesn't go up all the way immediately as well. Actually takes about 10 to 15 minutes of driving the car to get the needle up.

Anyone know if there is a simple fix? If not, it's not like it is affecting my driving or anything:dance:
