2001 Boxster. Temp light, check engine light

Hello! I figured out that my Boxster has a coolant leak coming directly out of the bottom of the coolant tank. Put a little distilled water in it. That took care of the flashing temp gauge light. I realize I need to replace the tank now. After the temp light went out. The check engine light came on. Is this due to the leak or is this another issue? Need help! Being a woman, I feel like I might get screwed around by a mechanic. The more I know about it the better I will feel when talking to them. Advice please. Thanks so much! :(

You need to read the code. Likely not related. The flashing light on the temp gauge meant low water.

It's a tough DIY job to replace the reservoir.

Thank you! I will take it to get the code read.
