Ding on drivers side door.........
 

I accidently put a ding on my driver side door by opening up my wife's car door while holding some grocery bags ( I will never go food shopping again). I went to a paintless ding specialist who has been doing this for 20 years. He got most of the ding out (you really have to look for the ding to see it now) by inserting tools down the window slot and working the ding out from the inside. He told me he couldnt get it all out because of the collision/crash bar that is inside the door. Im wondering if the interior panel is removed that there will be better access to get all the ding out........Anyone have experience with door dings and how to fix them ?.........Its so small and really not noticable, but I know its there and bugs me. Thanks in advance.

Pulling the door panel to look is not that hard.

Give it a week or so and it won't bother you anymore. At least that's what I keep telling myself. ;)

I've had both good and bad experiences with paintless dent removal, and have come to a belief that the quality of the result will hugely come down to the skill of whoever is doing the work. So you might ask around in your area to find out who is best to do it and familiar with our cars. (Don't try to find who is cheapest, etc).

Luckily, I had great results with it in my boxster. All dents removed. First car I've owned that doesn't have a single ding!

There are glue-pull techniques I know some PDR guys can do, which might be applicable in your situation. Haven't seen it myself or really understand it, but they took out a ding in my door next to the pinch weld with it - (where I believe the back side was inaccessible.)

Agreed. Results come down to the skill of whoever is doing the work. I've had a number of dings puled including one at the edge of the fender and wheel well and I'm completely happy that I can't see any evidence of prior damage.

I'm happy with.the job..........You really can't tell unless.you really.look.for it. The guy who did is an.older gentleman. He is very professional and.took.his time. He has a great shop and this is the only thing he does.

Very lucrative gig. I've heard of guys making well into the six figures with a good size book of business from the dealerships and independent mechanics.

When I took it down to the detail place who had their PDR guy do the work, of course we found at least 2-3 more dings hiding away in various spots. (And once you know they're there, yes, they do bug you - so I saw no sense in having any fewer than ALL OF THEM removed).

If removed nicely, if there is anything left of the old ding, it ends up looking like the rest of the factory "orange peel" paint texture.

And now that there is not a single ding on my car, I park very far away to try to keep it like that..

I think this is part of the healthy "Porsche lifestyle." :p (And I don't mind walking a bit further - it's good exercise. :) )
