2002 S headlight question

I purchased a used 2002 S a few months ago. I noticed that when I turn the parking lamps on, one headlight turns on dimly. Should the headlights come on dimly (like a daytime running lights feature) or is my headlight turning on and it shouldn't? I do not have a manual and have been unable to find a conclusive answer.

A second question, when I opened the hood and pulled back the lining to try removing the headlight to do further investigation, I can't seem to find the release or a hole to turn the release. Am I blind or is it in a different spot on 2002 S model than other years?

Yes that is normal when you turn the parking lights on. In order to take the headlights out you need to remove the black rubber plug. There is a 5mm nut you have to turn to remove the light. I can't remember which way it needs to turn. I'm sure someone will chime in with that answer.

ok, so my one headlight is not turning on with the parking lights is the problem. Thank you for clarifying. It is very helpful for me to know which issue to track down.

I think you can only choose Left or Right parking light, but not both at the same time.
At least, that's the way it is on my car. Or maybe my car has an issue too?

I think the OP means the regular parking lights ( side markers, tail lights , dim lights in headlights ). Not the the European ones that light up on only one side in the back. At least that's what i thought he was talking about.

What's the use of these parking lights anyway?
I mean I don't see the point of turning on just one small bulb on one side...

Narrow streets. The light next to the curb is useless and just accelerates battery discharge.

First position to right turns on both park lights and both tail lights. Single-side is either of the two positions to the left. Same as every Mercedes since at least the 1970s.

It's European. Sorry if it isn't merikun.
