Relocating HVAC controls

I'm installing a double din gps unit in my car. I will be moving the HVAC controls to the bottom spot. I had no problems moving the wires to the lower spot. But I can't seem to get the HVAC controller to fit. It won't go all the way in. It sticks out about a half inch. Do I have to trim something on the controller or inside of the mounting hole? I thought it would just slide in. I can see where the little tabs on the bottom should go and the holes to screw it in on the top sides. It seems to be hanging up on something inside that I can't see.

I had to cut mine to get everything in. I had the DSP on the very bottom and the HVAC just above it. IMHO, I did a poor trimming job and think that others could give you better direction in how to and how much to trim.

Also, because of where I put the HVAC I had to cut the bottom off of a trim piece to make it fit. This may be because I had a DSP in there too.

If you want, I'll ship my old one to you.

Thanks for the offer Chuck. I ended up trimming just a little bit off of the HVAC unit its self. Fits perfect now. With the light in the garage last night I couldn't see what it was hanging up on. The bright sunshine helped :)
