Give us your input on our shipping time/costs!

We are always trying to improve your customer experience and would love to get your thoughts on this.

Would you rather have a product ship immediately for a higher cost or wait 4-5 days to ship for a lower cost? Which is more important to you? The cost difference is 10% to 20%. So, it’s pay 10-20% more to ship immediately, or save 10-20% but wait 4 to 5 days before the product ships. Actual ship time would be the same, this is just a matter of when the product first gets out the door.

The way things are set up, it has to be one or the other and we are trying to decide which is most important to you. So chime in and let us know your preference!

*Please complete the poll above*

I want my stuff today! And I'll almost always pay to get it faster.

ETA...can we get a link to Pelican on the 986 site forum home pages?

JayG 09-03-2015 01:25 PM

I want it all
Fast shipping a low cost

It sounds like you want to charge a premium for fast order processing. I suppose it is one thing to que it and it goes when it goes, but another if the plan is it just sits for 4-5 days before it ships whether or not it was ready to ship

If I need something ASAP, I am willing to pay a little more. Don't like to, but will pay.

There are many vendors that have free ground shipping regardless of the order size and that can make a difference in who I order from, especially when it is a small item for $10. It kind of hurts when the part is $10 and the shipping is $10

In an age when companies like Amazon.com can deliver car parts in two days without any shipping charges, and in some markets the same day, your question seems almost peculiar.

luckyed7711 09-03-2015 03:06 PM

The choice doesn't make any sense. I don't like either option. It doesn't much sound like you're trying to "improve your customer experience"; more like you're trying to improve your bottom line. Paying more for a "faster" shipping option makes sense, but not paying more for faster processing. Also, like JayG, I don't like to pay 8 or 10 bucks to ship a low cost, light weight item that can be mailed for much less.

JFP makes a good point
Hell with Amazon Prime I sometimes get thing the same day and no cost for shipping

Precisely!

Truth be told... Pelican's current pricing model already seems dialed in to the 'premium' category where customer expectations are heightened ;)

Timco 09-03-2015 04:21 PM

And should we consider company sizes? As a small business, I can't get pricing or breaks big companies get, and without those kinds of profits I can't offer even lower prices and such to attract even more customers because I'm so far ahead cash wise like Amazon. They're a monster. Not even a close or fair comparison.

Waiting 4-5 days is not an option. I order Joe Gibbs DT40 cases from Summit by noon & it's on my front porch by 9am the next morning, no extra charge.

Pelican has been great for fast & reasonable shipping, & I usually buy additional parts to meet the previous $75 minimum for free shipping. Since the minimum total has doubled I have had to find other options.

jaykay 09-03-2015 04:48 PM

Having bought Bimmer Speciaist, is it now easier for Canadians to make purchases and get non UPS shipping?

Jeez will Summit do that for the Great White?

No vote. Local or Amazon, two days max, no freight. Amazon, usually a cheaper purchase price and incredible return policy.
The world is changing, absorb the costs or be left behind.

I hate Amazon. I'd rather give my business to the smaller companies, even if it means paying a little more. And I certainly don't need motor oil delivered the next day when I only change it once or twice a year !

rick3000 09-03-2015 08:21 PM

I have ordered from Pelican a few times, but only when I hit the threshold for free shipping (which I found to be very quick). Honestly, the $8 minimum shipping charge has taken my business elsewhere on a number of occasions. If I'm going to pay for shipping I'll call Sunset and get the best possible price. Didn't vote.

jsceash 09-04-2015 05:15 AM

Sorry but almost every site I buy from has free economy shipping 4-5 days. I can't remember the last time I paid for 2-3 day shipping over $100 purchase.

I have purchased from you in the past, but here is the thing you have to fix. If I do a search for a part on the internet your site usually does not come up. Then I have to search your site and other separately. Your prices are about a 50/50 split. At that point with others offer free shipping you lost a sale.

If you had limited garage space &used the best oil available for your Porsche, you would understand!

Typically when I order parts online it is done in advance, in preparation for a job, so no rush. What has annoyed me with some orders from Pelican is, after ordering enough items to qualify for free shipping, all but one part will ship from one location and then I get charged shipping for the single part from another location. I would prefer all parts shipped same time. Does me no good to have 90% of the parts I need the next day!

I usually need parts pretty quickly. Two days is good. Tomorrow would be better. Today would be best. :)

Yes, I try to plan ahead but its hard to know what else you might need once you dig into the job.

I love Pelican Parts. They have literally taught me how to maintain and repair my Boxster, 996, 944 Turbo, 911SC along with my two BMW 325i's and X5. Plus, they are very nice when you call them on the phone. I mean like super nice and really helpful.

I have literally saved tens of thousands of dollars in repair bills. Someone might call me a 1%'er but I could care less about an $8 shipping charge or $20 difference in price of the part when most of the jobs that I do would cost $500-$1,000+ at a repair shop and I can get them done for $100-$350 in parts. The savings swamp the minor shipping cost or price differential.

I hope one day to meet Wayne. If I do, I plan to do three things;

1. Shake his hand
2. Thank him for all of the help
3. Beg him for a ride in the 959
