Found the smoking gun for my electrical gremlins

I had been having strange electrical gremlins for the last year, it always happened when I turned on my headlights. Sometimes I would get an oil light, sometimes a battery light....sometimes both at the same time. Well today I got my new headlight switch in (Thanks Rock Auto) and changed it out...easy job BTW

I noticed how much more definite the switch felt now...so I decided to take the old switch apart to see how it looked inside.......Nightmare

Now I see why I had strange things going on. There was a spring and contactor laying across a pair of contacts...surprised I didn't have some blown fuses or worse

Any chance that there are Mercedes part numbers on that? Looks oddly like the switch in my E320.

WOW - Glad you caught it before anything worse happened.

My 2000 S with 117K miles has it's original ignition switch. I only put the bare oe key in it, nothing attached. ;)

Not ignition. ...headlights
