The first 2016 Boxster has hit the local dealer.

There was some speculation as I recall that the upcoming Turbo Flat 4 was going to come out with the 2016 model Boxsters and Caymans. However the first 2016 model has popped up here still equipped with the standard 2.7 Flat 6. :)

I know it's supposed to be inevitable, but unless these are just a run-out of 2015s or they do a mid-model-year change, the '16s are apparently going to be business as usual.
Anyone have any solid updates on the 4-cylinder saga?

Not solid, but I've read there will be a reveal at the Detroit auto show in January or the Geneva auto show in March of 2016.

I'm sure someone on here has better info than what I have..

Wow. My S has it in HP. Never would have guessed that.

only 207 on the torque . the old 3.2 makes 229 ! I bet it is still faster with the PDK .

I remember being surprised when seeing the specs for the new base. The old S really is about as good if not better in some specs. The gap between base and S has just widened.

On the topic of model updates there have been leaks of a tarp coming off of a redesigned 911 in Stuttgart. It was part of a display and was meant to stay covered but the tarp came off, so I expect the refresh on the 991 soon and the boxster should follow or happen at the same time.

The 911 has a more militant rear end then before the refresh and it's rumored that the cars are all turbo and smaller displacement.

With Porsche pushing out many special editions for the 981 expect a refresh really soon and I wouldn't be surprised for it to be a flat 4.

I've read the same. Look for the 4-cyl turbos going on sale in about a year.

Porsche still hasn't explained how they are going to handle naming of the 911 Turbo when what used to be the NA models get turbos as standard equipment. Will they call the old Turbo model the Super Turbo?

RandallNeighbour 08-20-2015 06:51 AM

I did read that the 991 was due for a facelift. Going with turbos on all new models may be good for fuel economy and even performance, but there's a bunch of NA guys out there like me that will pine for a NA motor in their sports car.

My gripe is that I will be in the market for a 991S (2013-2014 model) a few years from now and if they're all turbos going forward, the NA models may hold their value longer and I'm counting on some depreciation!!!!

That 2016 Boxster looks very sweet though. I just want a little more interior room and to achieve that childhood dream of owning a 911.

I know is the early 2000s Volkswagen would change their cars mid year. We could have a 2016.5 with a turbo four.

I doubt this very much. The typical second-hand buyer does not care if its NA or if there are six monkeys in there turning foot pedals. All they see if the brand and model. They probably care more about the color than the engine style.
But the bigger issue is that there are simply way to0 many 996, 997 and 991 in the market for sale. Their values really can't be sustained with a belt-tightening pool of second-hand buyers that have their pick of the litter. Not long from now anyone willing to roll the dice on an out-of-warranty fragile German luxury car requiring over-priced parts and specialized labor will be able to buy one for the same $20k that air-cooled cars used to go for in the early to mid 2000's. That's a tough sell unless you've been wanting one for a really long time.

Thanks for the insight everyone!
I hadn't heard about the 2016 premier. Looks like they may be getting it ready as a 2017 model, especially if a facelift is on the list. ;)
