NEW: Porsche Boxster Immobilizer CLU Waterproof Case
Hello everyone,
As some of you may already know, we talked about designing a waterproof case for the Alarm Immobilizer Unit in Boxsters and 996s. These units get water damaged easily if the convertible top is left open during rain, or just by the accumulation of water by the car's water drains, because Porsche installed them right on the floor of the car. http://site.ecudoctors.com/images/Po...ged-Banner.jpg The costs entailed to repair this problem can reach $1,000's easily, that's why it would be more cost effectuve to protect the CLU to begin with. Therefore, after many months of revisions and working with vendors to complete this enclosure, we began shipping waterproof cases last week to the members that where on our waiting list. http://site.ecudoctors.com/images/Po...prevgraybg.jpg Below are a few screenshots of the installation video final Immobilizer Waterproof case. http://site.ecudoctors.com/images/Po...ase-video1.jpg http://site.ecudoctors.com/images/Po...ase-video1.jpg If you are curious about how it is mounted here is the installation video: Porsche Immobilizer CLU Waterproof Case - Installation instructions - YouTube and PDF instructions: http://goo.gl/A9NQou We're excited about this project and what it could mean to the Porsche community. Please share if you know someone that could benefit from this. |
This looks like a fantastic product, I was recently toying with the idea of wrapping mine in plastic.
Three questions: Where can you order one and what is the cost? How much trouble is it if you ever have to open the case again? Wouldn't it be safer to disconnect the battery before doing this install? It looks like the sealant injected into the wiring harness could cause issues if you ever had to reopen it. Again, this looks fantastic, so glad people are still innovating new products for the 986! |
rick3000,
Thanks so much for the support. I own a blue 2001 Boxster so the love for the 986 is personal. To answer your questions... The waterproof case comes in a KIT with some of the tools needed (like the rare E12 torx driver that most people don't have), accessories (fuse extension) and instructions for $150. We had to reopen the case while we were shooting the installation video and the silicone does hold it strongly but it can be reopened with a little patience. HOWEVER, we included a Fuse Extension in the kit to avoid having to reopen the case once it is sealed if the Immobilizer fuse were to fail. When it comes to disconnecting the battery some people will have to move their electric seats back and forth, so it's better to keep it connected. Plus, we recommend that the Immobilizer functions get tested during the installation. Therefore as long as you are careful with the circuit board of the Immo the battery can stay connected. I'll PM you the link to order, but it can be done from the front page of our website. |
