Identify this?
I was driving today and while at a light clutch depressed I felt something hit my foot. It felt like a drop of water.
After finishing the drive I found this in he footwell. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...56d2ba7ce5.jpg |
It's a deep orange red foam ring that has been broken. Air con was on full blast when I think it fell and clutch was depressed.

Air duct to the air vent driver side?
|
OH NOOOO
You will have to replace the BSMSB All seriousness aside, looks like something form the AC Try looking at the PET and see if you can find the part |
Does this mean catastrophic ims detonation with the power of a sun!?
It's so hard to get your head into the footwell of these cars. Things look in check though. |

Hey Jake - It is the same piece as this. :D
Several years ago forum member trimer posted a picture exact to what you found and what I found. All 3 of us found the piece in the drivers side footwell of 2001 or 2002 S cars. At the time no one could identify the piece. Maybe this time we'll get lucky. Whatever it is, in the two years since I found it, the IMSB has not gone south and neither has the rear main seal or the water pump, so I guess we'll be ok. edit: BTW - I think it's clutch pedal related. Mine dropped on my foot the same time I depressed the clutch pedal. |
Maybe JFP in PA or Woody can identify it

That's definitely the same piece! Hopefully someone can figure out what it is. It fell from right above the arch of my foot. |
You've got me stumped. At least until tomorrow morning when I can go look at a car with no dash. I'll post a pic

I had to resist to not make a joke like this when making the original post! |

It looks like some kind of gasket, perhaps from the brake pedal bellow?
|
Hmm... doesn't look like anything off the steering shaft or pedal system. Looking through the parts catalog, only thing I can think of is the heating air distributor. Look at PET illustration 813-01 and check your air ducts.

I think I remember seeing a ring like that when I pulled my ductwork out to swap the clutch spring.
Word of advice, though - if you go down there don't wear a belt or pants with belt loops. I may or may not have gotten hung up on the frunk release and wedged in there for a bit. (Waiting for the next joke...) |
First drive today since it fell. There is now less clutch feel. It's a smoother and possibly lighter motion however less feel of engagement flows through the pedal.
|
I'm embarrassed to say, I couldn't find where that piece goes on any of my cars. I checked a bunch of cars with dashes and without. In my defense, it's been 100-105 down here and I haven't been very motivated to look harder. I had one fall out on me once. At the time I didn't care and just left it.

Forever a mystery possibly. Car runs fine so that's that.
