both HID lights won't come on, ignition switch?
I'm sorry if this has been covered but tonight both HID lights won't come on. can it be the ignition switch or the actual light switch itself? switched out new ignition switch earlier in the spring. Cant imagine both bulbs burning out the same time.
thanks for your thoughts.! |
I'd say headlight switch.
yeah your prob right. ignition switch seems to cause so many problems. hopefully this headlight switch is easy and cheap :)
The headlight switch is easy to get out and change, but it is not cheap
ok guys, thanks seems like its the issue. yeah seems expensive but its ok if its the definite problem :) do you think i just need the cover or the electrical portion also?
Electrical portion only. Pull it and try cleaning with contact cleaner first (spray into it without disassembly).
ok Thanks Particle ! Will go out and buy it this morning!. Will report back. thanks!
particle, I pulled it out and it looks very silver clean, i tried filing the contact points like some have suggested and did not work. I'm not sure what a cleaner would do since its so clean looking already? still worth getting before I order one? Is it worth ordering a used one or should I just buy new? Thank you for your thoughts.

I changed mine out a few weeks ago and it looked factory new but it was bad. Some people said to get contact cleaner inside but I say toss it out and get a new one. Side note, mine was $159 shipped from Suncoast but if I had to do it again I'd spend another twenty and get it somewhere else. They didn't ship it for three days after I placed the order and paid for it and somehow they found an antique UPS route to get it to me 7 days later.

Yeah thats what I'm leaning towards also Chris. Called advanced auto and they have aftermarket one for $100. Worth aftermarket?
Tough call. Maybe someone else has experience with aftermarket. I guess for a hundred bucks, as easy as they are to change, you could probably roll the dice there.

Did you take the switch apart, or just clean the wire connector? The contacts are inside the switch (I wouldn't try to take it apart). You should spray contact cleaner inside it and turn the switch several times to clean. NOT these contacts on the back. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...46BE1B3F6C.jpg Spray cleaner INSIDE the switch through any open area (probably best to spray down through gap at shaft). http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...5D440CEF7B.jpg |
oh ok !!! I thought you meant just the connectors. they looked so clean to me :)
so splay the cleaner in the tiny metal hole? sorry for my ignorance and thank you for your patience :) |
Ah, I see. Yeah, the contacts inside are what go bad, but some have gotten years of additional service by spraying the electrical contact cleaner in them. ;)
ok ill go buy that now :) worth a shot !
A7 and A8 are the fuses, so you might check those, too. However, just like the bulbs, I highly doubt they'd both go out at the same time. The only places where both headlights power pass through are the headlight switch and the high beam stalk.
My money is still on the switch ;) |
this forums kicks ass! it worked !!! lights turn on perfectly !!!! THANK YOU everyone(particle) for your wisdom ! very much appreciated!
