magically de-snorkeled????

okay, so this trip to Phoenix is getting weirder and weirder.

I'm washing my car this afternoon - completely covered with bug guts - yack! Anyway, washing the passenger side airvent and I make an interesting discovery - there's nothing behind the vent - i can see right into the fan!!! check the other side - plastic piece (snorkel) still there! I think, hmmm, pretty sure it was there on the passenger side early this week (Wed was last time I washed car). Then I wonder, maybe this little piece mechanically lifts up or folds down when the car is on to increase airflow - but, why haven't I noticed it before. Clearly though, the piece is missing and I'm baffled! Makes sense now why I've noticed the sound of a jet engine coming from the passenger side when the car is idling!

Have just been a space cadet and imagined that piece there on the passenger side or am i in somekind of bizarro world where my 987 is magically falling apart?
