Which Spare Parts Do You Keep 'In Stock'?
Hi Everyone,
I have been ordering the parts to do an oil change, and make some upgrades to my 986. Because of the often high shipping costs, I ordered a few spare parts to have on hand (spare drain plug, extra crush washers, spare wheel well liner rivets, hardtop caps, etc.) Curious, if anyone else keeps a few things 'in stock' in their garage? If so, what? Best, -Rick  |

I'm probably not the norm because of tracking the car, you can't tell what may happen
I have the 4 primary water hoses A starter reconditioned A set of brake pads new and usually 2 set 30-50% used Several Oil filters. (buy 6 at a time) 1-2 cases of oil Drive Belt and 2 idlers 2 used good trailing arms 2 used good lower control arms Ate 200 brake fluid 2 liters Petosin SF Antifreeze 2-1.5 liters bottles A set tires mounted street 2 sets track tires mounted A sparkplug coilpack A set (6) of plugs A 987 Mahle Air filter, and a K&N clean used filter All spare lamps except xenon head lights Bank 1 & 2 3.2 variocam heads complete. 2004 2.7 motor complete minus harness and plenum 2003 |
I bought a bunch of maintenance items at a discount from a guy who sold his Boxster. Normally, I wouldn't stockpile parts but I couldn't pass up a good deal.
I just used the spark plugs a few weeks ago, so I'm down to 2 oil filters/gaskets, 2 drain plug crush washers, 4 spark plug tubes and O rings and an ignition switch. I also have a gallon of undiluted anti-freeze and a gallon of 50/50 mix that I bought when I replaced the water pump. It makes sense to save on shipping costs, but usually something breaks with fair regularity on my car. So I buy maintenance items that I anticipate using in the next few months when I buy repair parts. |
Filters, drain plug, crush rings, coolant, coolant mix, serpentine belt, bulbs, coolant expansion tank, ignition switch; I'm sure there's more, but this is what comes to mind. Oh yeah - I have a Sachs clutch, too.
