New bearing innovation video

I am no engineer and do not know how much of this applies to the ims bearing, but I find the video very interesting. Throwing this one to the wolves.

Definitely interesting, only time will tell

They may pass in low speed applications like bicycles, but never in high RPM or high load. I seriously doubt that it would even perform consistently in the aforementioned low RPM and low load applications.

Agreed PW

The one redeeming thing would be that oil could get in there really easily

Hahaha! That was funny, J! :D

Weakness is low load capacity ? Note they are proposed for bicycles.
Claimed they don't require grease but wonder how they would perform with a DOF type oil feed.

particlewave 06-01-2015 08:11 PM

Extremely low...close to none. Imagine a pair on a bicycle wheel and what would happen to the balls with no cage once you sit on it. The inner races will push on the balls, forcing all of the balls together and creating a gap between the balls at the bottom of the bearing where the balls are needed most.
...and this is only static load.
I don't see this having any practical applications.

The cage in a bearing keeps the balls equidistant relative to one another.

Apology right up front

So Balls are the problem :D
