Hose clamps?

Do these look like factory hose clamps?

I'm wondering if this is the original

If it is I should start looking at getting a new one. 2001 with 103 000kms...

Coolant is green so was thinking it's been done by a previous owner. I would have thought that they would have used the one time use clamps originally from the factory.

The factory spring hose clamp is the best clamp and in many ways better than the screw type clamp. The factory style spring clamp will keep constant pressure on the hose unlike the screw type. When the hose expands the rubber will squish out of a screw clamp and when it shrinks the clamp will no longer have the same tension as it originally had. the spring clamp from the factory will always have the same tension.

That being said the clamps look factory and not the spring type clamp

So the factory sent cars out with more than type of hose clamp on the waterpump?

WillH 05-10-2015 11:05 AM

Ok. Spring clamps at the other end of the hose, screw clamps at the water pump. Why?

healthservices 05-10-2015 11:25 AM

Why? Lol why bother asking?

Check the exploded diagrams in the parts catalog. ;)

I guess, why ask why. I thought maybe because the screw type clamps hold up better to vibration and the spring clamps are isolated by the 10 or so inches of rubber hose. Or maybe different areas of assembly used different methods. Just surprised to see to different methods used to do the same thing on the same vehicle within 12" or so.

I was hoping that they were not original and pointed to the water pump being replaced.
From what I can see the water pump gasket looks uncut so that also would point to an original water pump.

Poking around while changing the engine mount...

Hmm. they are all spring type in the parts diagramm.

Mine still has the factory style screw hose clamp. And I'm sure I've had a couple water pumps in the past.

The factory gasket is steel from what I have seen.

I'm trying to recall if my car has a single screw type clamp on it (it's a 2000). Maybe one or two.

At first i was not fond of the spring type since you have to hold them expanded while you position them. That is their only flaw. As indicated, they hold uniform pressure during thermal expansion

They have one part, no moving parts - paper clip simple just the way it should be.
