Couldn't stay away...found an atypical 986

I am a previous 986 owner...really enjoyed the car, but when we found out we were pregnant with number 4 I sold it (and my Baja) because I knew "Toys" wouldn't be used for awhile.

2 nights ago I'm looking through CL and run across an atypical Box and it sucked me in.

What was atypical was how low mileage it was, how great it looked and how much preventative maintenance it's had....and it's all on a Rebuilt title '99.

Normally, I don't give them a second thought, but it has had a replacement IMS and clutch 10 months ago from the best OK Porsche service (Dumonts). Then it also had a 60K service done - with everything done (to the tune of $1500) even more recently.

Car sits now with 61,000 miles.

It was 'rebuilt' due to storm damage that cause body dents that was enough to total it through insurance. The owner bought it back and it is now a MINT exterior...perfect paint on a flawless body.

After I bought it I found a set of 19" wheels with almost new Nittos from an independent for $800 and my stockers.

Anyway, I was charmed with the deal and as of today have another Box.

Probably won't drive it more than a couple times a month but as cheap as it was I just had to have it; so, glad to be back!

That sounds like an awesome find, congrats! Any pics? :)

PS: I really need to check the local CL listings more often.

Not sure of the maker on the wheels...the are 19" with Porsche crests and a graphite center which goes pretty well with the grey leather....

I was looking at that one along with redtele. Was wondering about the rebuilt title but it looked clean. Glad someone on here snatched it up.

Insurance companies are funny that way. I've also seen cars "totalled" due to hail damage, heck, even from being ditched and losing the lower rad hose causing the engine to overheat. It depends on a lot on what's written into the policy.

Nice car - I had my eye on it too.

Welcome back!

Welcome back... looks great. I have to agree on the degree of salvage titles. One of my daughters bought a "flood damage" salvage car. The flood was a bad upper windshield seal that allowed water to pour into the car. No other damage! She has had it for 10 years and 100,000 miles without an issue. Go figure.

is that your house in the back or a historic castle?

Nice find! now get ready to be looked at by everyone... red is not the most humble sport car colour around (its annoying on occasion). Luck with that lollll hehe

Also love the wheels. Nice package right there mate. Lucky

Thanks for all the kind words. This was the first time I've ever considered a 'REBUILT' car but now I know that there are all sorts of reason for that circumstance.

In fact, I believe this car cosmetically is as good as any 2yo car would be, it's that near perfect.

The interior is commensurate with a '99 with 60K miles (which isn't bad) everything works as it should and plastics and leather have held up well. Top is solid with light hazing on window.

The owner obviously loved it, which showed in the $4500 in recent preventative maintenance.

Overall, without the title issue I think it would be a $10K+ car as it sets, I have exactly $7500 ($6700 for car + $800 for wheel/tire upgrade).

Honestly, I can't think of a better car for $7500 anywhere!

Ha...it's my house. I have tons of pics of cars from that same spot...I won't bore anyone with my previous cars except for this one of my last Box:
