Door handles - passenger LED mod?
I thought, I share a few photos, while the covers get a "little" upgrade :D
Popping off the covers can be done without breaking plastic pieces inside...just be careful and use 2 (covered) thin screwdrivers or plastic spatulas. Don't use force :troll: Question: Does anyone know, the part number of the door LED? It seems, that installing one on the passenger side could be an easy task. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428835668.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428835686.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428835699.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428835715.jpg |
very cool. I've wanted to do this. more pics? is there an actual part number? or are you just modifying it.

Only for MY01-04, i guess?
Looks like a simple amber LED in a simple plastic triangular casing. Just need to find an amber LED and a similar looking plastic piece, should not be too difficult http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428941464.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428941479.jpg Most difficult part would be the soldering in my case  This is the passenger side... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428941537.jpg |
Looks good Bran. keep us updated :)

Wonder if that's available as a separate part. If so, it would need to be from a RHD model.
|
I was just thinking about this the other day! My mini has all sorts of little accent LEDs tucked away in the nooks and crannys . Not only would it look good, it would help overall with just a bit more light in the cabin.

You know after seeing your thread, I went and popped off mine to have a look. My driver's side has the LED facing forward and the one facing backward. My passenger side only has the one facing backward. What gives? Is this how it came from the factory?
Yeah now I do want to do this mod too. I am looking online ebay to find a used doorhandle that has the LED already and thinking of just popping it in place...but its a gamble since they can come defective hence used... |
My wife found the led the other day when looking over, is there any purpose for it ? I have never noticed it before
|
lucky me...just found a cheap, used RHD right door handle complete with both leds and plastic LED casing...here in Germany...lol
 |

Great idea from Deserion to look for a RHD model. Should be an easier task for our RHD fellows to find a LHD version :D |

Does anyone know what volt/watts these led's run at? I'd like to make mine a tad brighter and the one on the rear view mirror too.
PS. cool little feature I found a while back, there's actually a button on the left back side of the rear view mirror which allows you to have the LED below it to be set to low or high. When hanging a parking permit from the rear view mirror, this LED lights up the parking pass nicely. I have an 03 boxster . |
Recently I was in the cockpit of a home build aircraft and some well placed LEDs made all the difference in the environment. Of there were many more switches and checks to go through but I think his lighting would be a nice thing to have in the Boxster. I am definately a night driver.
I have 2000 so all of this is foreign to me. How are these lights actuated? How is the brightness controlled? Is it worthwhile to retro fit this to a 2000 given that it likely has none of this built in |
Okay that RHD door handle arrived. That seems to be a real easy mod (except that soldering, I hate that...lol...no clue about resistors and stuff, so I don't know how to improve/adjust brightness --> those LED lights are very subtle, a little brightness "mod" would be nice)
An easy peasy clip connector, who would have thought that. Some close-ups: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1429629514.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1429629531.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1429629790.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1429629804.jpg |
