Best place to buy MAF?
I've been fighting a rough idle and dead spot between 3K-4K RPM's and narrowed to down to the MAF. Where's the most affordable place to get the MAF from?
|
I got mine from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CO317M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It looks like it has gone up a little since I got it, but still a good price. I have a 2000 S so it should be the same part, but in case I got it wrong and am driving around with the wrong MAF please verify the part number for yourself :) |
Are you sure it isn't a vacuum leak ?
What happens if you run the engine with the MAF power plug disconnected ? Just hate to see you waste funds on a misdiagnosis. http://www.underhoodservice.com/diagnostic-solutions-maf-sensor-testing-methods/ |
I wonder how that company can do that price. It is lower than my cost by more than a bit. Great price, thanks for sharing that.

Almost 100% positive. If I unplug the MAF my idle smoothes out and the dead spot between 3K and 4K RPM's goes away.

^ probably an OEM QC reject sold at cut rate pricing to aftermarket re-sellers.

Check your chassis number. I can look it up to make sure you that you get the right part. There are two different parts for this depending on the chassis number.

Erik do mean my VIN?

My Chassis # is YU625189 which means the newer MAF (BOSCH 0-280-218-055) correct?

It had the hologram and everything on the box so I believe it to be genuine. |
Well for $150 or literally 25% of what the dealer will charge why not. But I think someone mentioned once that Porsche have pretty strict testing of these before they are installed. There is apparently a wide variance on quality by Bosch. What doesn't make the cut goes on Amazon.
I guess the issue is do you want to replace it every two years for $150 or every 8 years for $600. |

That is a crazy good price for a new one, but even Pelican and ******************************************** sell the exact same part you would get from a Porsche dealer at about 1/3 the cost you posted. Pelican Parts - European Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche • BMW • Mercedes • Volkswagen • Audi • Saab • Volvo • MINI FOR PORSCHE: 98660612501, 986 606 125 01 - READY TO SHIP - (BOSCH AIR MASS SENSOR) If you feel like chancing it, $45 used and these guys don't have 100% feedback for selling bad parts. |
I bought mine, a Bosch, from RockAuto in February of 2013 for $170. Same one Amazon is selling for $145 now. Sunset Porsche is selling the OEM MAF for $401. Damn easy decision in my mind.
|
I bought one in January from Auto Haus AZ for $ 173.71
The Amazon deal looks good if your numbers match. |
I bought from Pelican due to their return policy and to support a vendor that supports the forum.
Their customer support is incredible. I did return one MAF and the 2nd one also did not seem to fix the problem either but I found out that it was the electrical contacts in the MAF plug that was really the problem. I sprayed MAF cleaner on the harness plug and MAF plug and all is well now. Just make sure who ever you get it from has an excellent return policy. |

I don't buy any of my parts from the dealer. Point is Porsche only use the top "1%" so to speak for this particular part. Those cut rate prices on Amazon in this instance reflect the units that do not meet the highest testing requirements by Porsche and did not pass. Allegedly, Bosch takes them back and price them accordingly. For whatever reasons Bosch have not mastered better quality control for this specific part, which probably means its something that is beyond their control perhaps some rare earth metal or something. Otherwise there would not be such a wide variance for this part unlike so many other parts that have a tighter margin. Good deals are often worth taking a chance but they're a good deal for a reason. High probability of under performance. |
