tiptronic trans like new

changed the filter and fluid in the tiptronic in the 04 Boxster S LE yesterday. The fluid was not burnt, but was very black with a good bit of sludge in the bottom of the pan. No metal at all. Was able to drain out about 4 liters of fluid and replace it.
I have had no problems of not with the transmission (73K miles) but have noticed that it downshifted a bit hard and not as smoothly as before. I guess you get used to gradual change and do not notice it too much or maybe you just expect things to wear and function differently, but when I took it out for a test drive I could not believe how smoothly it shifts and feels. Like a new transmission. Based on the difference I had, I can't believe Porsche waits til 90K to service the transmission.
One of the best $150 I ever spent. Now the C 4 needs it.

The Porsche tiptronic is am adapted MB NAG 1 722.6. Until 2005 Mercedes Benz recommended to do ATF oil and filter changes first at 90 K miles. And than no more. They've called it a lifetime fill.

In 2006 they had enough experience with bad transmissions of MB cab drivers. They've changed the ATF and ATF oil filter interval to 60.000 Km. And no longer a lifetime filling. ;)

60.000 Km is 37.5 K miles.

Hope that helps. ;)

90K miles is too long for these Tips. Mine started acting up at 74K and I had it serviced and it shifted like new. 60K is the longest I'll go again without servicing it.

my next change will be about 30K more miles since it was so dirty and I was only able to drain about half. Then I will see how it looks and judge future changes.

I had mine done while getting the new LN IMS installed.
