Correct. He did him two favors. Sold the car with deferred maintenance taken care and then took it back on only a hand shake deal.
This type of deal must represent 00.00001% of car sales. And reason #439 why Porsches bought from enthusiasts should always be the #1 route.

Lesson learned: Never sell a used car to a friend. :o

I think that I see an eBay listing in my near future...

No reserve eBay sounds like your best bet. Will be interesting to see where the price ends up.

thstone 05-23-2015 02:05 PM

For sale again! Low starting price + no reserve.

Hopefully it will stay sold this time. :)

Whether its selling a car, renting an apartment, hiring a contractor... I never mix business and friendship. I my opinion, you have nothing additional to gain and potentially a friendship to lose. FWIW, I would have done the same thing that you did if I was in your shoes.

Hey, I got a bid! No reserve - this car will be sold!

clickman 05-24-2015 03:07 PM

It's a $10,000 reserve, isn't it? ;)

It was a $10,000 min bid (which I received). There is no reserve - so if no one else bids, the current bidder gets the car for $10K.

Might just be his lucky day. :)

Good luck, hope the buyer doesn't back out on you.

I too consider that a reserve. A true no reserve listing starts at .01 as the starting amount.

Ok, I see what you're saying and you're right. I guess that I was thinking that most reserves are hidden where the bidders don't know how high they have to go to get the car sold (like at a live auction). I suppose that I had a clearly disclosed reserve! :)

KRAM36 05-24-2015 04:04 PM

I hope it goes up higher. Still seems crazy that that car could be bought for $10K.

Two thumbs way up stone.

After 51 years on this planet i have learned to divorce/de-friend many "types" of high drama people.

That car is a STEAL at that price.

I had a turbo Subaru wagon that I hopped, uh, a ways (would have slain my boxster to about 60mph). One couple came to see it after hubby had been hit in his more boring subaru. I knew he was hooked when he turned the key (was) and i let him drive it with his wife.

For those that dont know, the turbo subaru has a rep for self destruction just like our cars. When they came back he asked if i was okay with a pre buy. I was and arranged for my son to drive it in for the inspection.

The place came up with a list of crap (none urgent and some pulled out of their a**), along with a $2500 quote. Buyer backed out. Too bad because eventually i sold it to a guy that had one and knew what he was looking at. His was sexy but mine was fast, so he and his wife fought over who got to drive it.

GLWS. If i just had a bigger garage.

SOLD at $11,400.

I spoke to the buyer and he is arranging payment and shipping.

BruceH 05-26-2015 04:31 PM

Congrats Tom! Someone is getting a great deal!

KRAM36 05-26-2015 06:56 PM

Nice! Glad to see it went for more.

Chuck W. 05-27-2015 12:24 PM

Great! In the end, everything works out.

Retroman1969 05-27-2015 03:47 PM

That's such a gorgeous machine! Someone must be giggling like a schoolgirl, getting it for that amount.
