What $$ can i expect to get from a 2003 Boxster w/Blown Engine?
Thinking of just selling this car as is- it suffered a camshaft/lifter failure...little did i know, that i was buying a ticking time bomb..a car that has had IMS/RMS done already, had tons of records & meticulously maintained by previous owner ends up blowing on me after only 2,000 miles!

Like I'd emailed to you... The engine does not sound "blown". It has a common issue for the 2003 model year and has lost a camshaft/ lifter. This is a mechanical repair, but it does NOT mean that the engine has blown.
The nice cars are the ones that fail. Trust me. |

Looks like used ones run a bit under $1K, and I'd guess another $500 for misc new parts, bolts etc. ??? Edit: Nevermind this---->$6500 could be a great deal if that's the case. I was thinking it was an S model Not saying, just wondering. |
Blue Book is around $10K. Any sane buyer will assume that the engine is completely destroyed. $4K-6K for a donor engine replacement. Buyer is taking all of the risk because there is often many more things wrong with a car when the engine doesn't run. Therefore expect $3000-$4500 for the rolling chassis with the damaged engine as-is. If you can get more, consider yourself lucky.

well maybe i should take on fixing it then- if i can get away with being all in for 4k after the fix i think i will go that route

$4k? you could sell your core for $1k and get a 3.2 for $5k and have 50 more hp for same $?

When this happened, were you driving aggressively or just normally and it went?

And sometimes, things just break and we've no idea why. Fluke of nature.

Including the guy that called me today with 9K miles on his car that he bought new and has "kept serviced". You know how may times a year I hear that?? I've had 50 failure calls logged into my book since the first of the year. ( a few of them were turbos/ Gt3s, 3 were Cayennes and 4 of them are 9a1 engines, the rest were allM96/97) Not a single damn one came from an aircooled Porsche |
