Manzo exhaust for my '02 Boxster

I am getting new Magnaflow catalytic converters put in my '02 Boxster. I thought while they are working on the exhaust, cutting up parts and welding new ones in, might be a good time to upgrade the exhaust. So I am looking at getting the Manzo unit:
Manzo Exhaust System Porsche Boxster 986/S (1997-2004) CBS-PB01

My question is, does this unit require any modifications to the CAT system? I have read other threads where people have put bypass pipes for the 2nd/rear CATs. Is that somehow necessary to fit this aftermarket Manzo unit? I'd rather leave all the CATs in as is even if the CAT bypass is 100% CA legal.

Thanks!

That is a good looking exhaust for a good price, how is the quality...is it lighter than the OEM one on a 3.2 S ?

biglimited 02-13-2015 04:51 AM

I have manzo backmuffler in my S. Very loud, and cant imagine it could be heavier than the original... Original is VERY heavy!

Pdwight 02-13-2015 05:03 AM

I already have the cat bypass pipes, I don't know that I want it to be any louder.....but lighter is always attractive

Ok then.. i used the same catdeletes in my z3 coupe with open muffler. Deleting cats made it even louder, more raspy sound! My pure manzo is so loud that it is almost unbearable.. wouldnt delete the cats with this! And also its illegel in Finland

I have this same muffler on my boxster. It's also known as a Che muffler or a Chinese muffler. A guy named Che in Dallas imported them along with sport headers years ago and I was his test subject for dyno runs, etc.

Kinda loud, but the drone between 2-3k rpms with the top up and windows up (when driving in the rain in traffic) is HORRIBLE. I actually get out of my car and feel as if I have lost some of my hearing.

Now on a sunny day with the top down or at the track with a helmet on, this muffler is glorious or magnificent or whatever superlative word you want to insert into this sentence.

It also has a nice burble to it and grunty sound at idle.

Know this going into this purchase.

To answer your question, no, this muffler doesn't need any alterations to your stock cats. Should bolt right on.

muffler suggestion

I have read several times Manzo is too loud. Which muffler would bolt right on the current set-up and not be to loud? I would like just a little more than stock on my S. What about just deleating secondary Cats only?

RandallNeighbour 02-13-2015 08:29 AM

Deleting secondary cats might make it a little louder.

I think you should just add bypass pipes to your stock S muffler if you just want it a little louder without any drone. Google "pedro sport exhaust" and you'll see how he did it.

Any decent muffler shop that can weld stainless can fab this up for you for less than $150 I would think.

FD Motorsports » Fister Exhaust – Boxster

You won't lose any weight but the sound is fantastic. Priced higher than the chinese ebay systems but much less than Borla, Fabspeed, etc

RandallNeighbour 02-13-2015 10:09 AM

The Fister is a really nice version of the Pedro Sport Exhaust...

jacabean 02-13-2015 11:11 AM

the charlie chan muffler is not loud even without the secondary cats it is still not loud enough .

rdass623 02-13-2015 03:11 PM

if installing one of those mufflers, the secondary cat delete pipes are all but necessary... they actually reduce the drone found between 2 and 3k. also you will have a deeper richer sound. the volume of the exhaust is not bad unless you are getting on it hard. casual driving will produce a mellow deep tone, what I have been told by neighbors is it "sounds like a Porsche should sound". without the cat delete pipes, the note is just louder.

sjbox 02-13-2015 03:35 PM

I am confused, some people say the Manzo muffler is louder with the CAT delete/bypass pipes in place and some say, it is louder without them and the CAT delete/bypass make it tamer/nicer?

I am in the same boat as "nicecar". Want a bit louder/nicer without modifications to CAT system.

Looks and sounds nice. And, it is local here, in the Bay Area. I think I am sold on the Fister exhaust.

Try this mod, it does sound good. If you want louder go with after market.

or drill completely through the muffler like I did lol. :D

I need to record the sound of my car before I go get the hole patched.

Why are you getting it patched?

When I did this mod, I use a real long 1/2" drill bit and went right out the back side of the muffler case lol. That's the hole I need fixed, sounds sweet though. Will have my daughter video/audio record before I get it patched.

Don't do drill mod. There's drone.

I did the Pedro mod and LOVE IT! Cost me 300.
