Porsche Gets the Message

Atlanta - Porsche Cars North America today announced that effective immediately the Boxster trade name for the German automaker’s entry level sports car would be dropped. An unidentified PCNA spokesman said “Marketing focus groups conducted around the US found that the name skewed the purchaser demographic towards female buyers. This is exactly opposite to the market segment we are pursuing.”
As a consequence of these marketing studies the car will be renamed the “Coxster”. An immediate spike in sales is anticipated, along with the elimination of the car’s reputation as a “chick car”. Negotiations are currently in progress with NASCAR to join the racing series as an associate sponsor.
TV comedian and renowned Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld, when approached for comment on the name change said, “I didn’t think there was anything wrong with that.”
