help with fault codes
 

I realize this is a 986 forum, but I have always gotten more useful info here than on the 996 forums.
On my 02 Carrera 4 I am getting PSM and ABS dash lights and when I hook up the durametric I get a tiptronic code 50 (impermissible transmission ratio) that will not clear. (nothing shows up on the dash regarding the transmission and it is operating as it should) I also get an ABS code 4460 (pressure sensor) that will clear, but comes right back when I start it up.
The dash lights came on a couple of times and would clear when the ignition was turned off and back on and be good for a few days and then I had ignition switch problems and assumed it was related, but after changing out the switch I still have these fault codes.
Anyone have any ideas?

I wonder if a wheel-speed sensor is confusing the computers?:confused:

Not quite sure how that would show up on the durametric or how to check them.

In the Actual Values selections (IIRC, in the PSM subsystem) -- I use Durametric version 6. Select the 4 wheels and set recording, then take a very short ride get gather data.


I don't know about the '02 Carrera, but the ABS 4460 code for an '06 Boxster has probable causes of:

Probable Cause[s]
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. Low brake fluid condition
4. Faulty sensor

Thanks Paul, I have a durametric pro, but have not had many problems that needed diagnosing, so am not entirely proficient on it, but I will give that a try.

After a lot of testing and reading I think I have it narrowed down to a faulty brake light switch. The switch is definitely not working and I ordered a new one today. It seems that with the tiptronic transmission there is so much interconnectivity with the abs, psm and several other systems that the cause and effect sometimes are not always obvious.
