door speaker boxes for 98 - there are 2 sizes?

I don't have any speakers in my doors. I want to add some. There seem to be two types out there for sale. One is longer than the other. According to Pelican, both "may" fix the 98 Boxster - any idea which I should buy? I imagine fitting the shorter one might be easier?

I'm planning on replacing the speakers.

This is the "short" one, P/N 996.645.012.00 Pelican lists it as par tof the M490 Option "Hi Fi Sound"

Neither... they both suck. Bad. Horrible. Pathetic.

Seriously they suck and I say that w/o even knowing price. If they're $10 total and you have a $5 off coupon, then they might be worth it. Any more and my comment above stands. LOL

Just make a custom baffle out of MDF or plywood and apply sound deadening wrap. Plug in some decent drivers (to maximize the power from your receiver/amp) and be one your way. There are many DIYs here to give you great step by step instructions.

Thanks for the opinion but what I'm looking to find out is which one of these will fit my 98 boxster

It would seem one is for Bose system, the other a nokia used with the 490 package.

Seem to recall something about Bose running 2 ohm speakers, I think (though not sure) I'd only use Bose speakers with their amp etc.

The ones with 3 screws around the speakers are the Bose. The ones with 4 screws are the Haes. Both will probably fit, as the Bose was offered as a premium option. In the case of the Bose, these are not full range speakers. They are door mounted subwoofers. Probably also true for the Haes as well but I'm not sure. If you want full range, then these are not for you. I have the Bose. Some people hate them, some like them. I like them. They are the only part of the entire Bose stereo system that I kept. I replaced the deck, amp, dash speakers, and rear deck subs.

I was thinking of buying a 6 channel amp (Haes I think). Do you know if the crossover is in the amp? If so, I guess the door channels from that amp can only be for subwoofers.

they both will fit.
You need to have the door card as well

DG Boxster 01-25-2015 07:43 PM

Thanks Jay - what is a "door card", the interior panel?

JayG 01-26-2015 05:13 AM

Yes, the interior panel. You will need them with the speaker grill.
Look on eBay
I also have a set from a 996 in grey

The bottom of the door panel with the speaker option actually protrudes out vs a door panel with no speakers. It's flat.
