I think what struck me most during my visits to the plant was the fact that no one seems to be in a hurry. Yes, they all move with German efficiency and purpose, but the cars come first, no rushing around to meet a quota.

The plant is quiet, and then the finished product drives off with out a sound! Great video. Certainly not Henry Ford's assembly line.

There's a "How It's Made" special on the 918 that's airing on the Science Channel. 9:00 PM on January 29th. (right after it, there's an episode on the GT40).

986 and now

I read quite a bit how the 986 is shallow or tame when compared to the cars of today, not a very fair comparison considering the the design is rapidly approaching 20 years old. I for one think the subtlety of the 986 will actually add to its longevity as the design is timeless IMHO. Do I wish for more HP, a engine with a better track record...of course who does not. That being said I have a hard time using the power of my S as it is, I cannot imagine having 3 times the HP at the wheels......but I would like to try it
