Door micro switches - latch or handle?

My 99 Boxster has the issue where the window does not drop down/go back up as it should when the inside or outside handle is lifted. It seems like a common issue is failure of the microswitches inside the latch mechanism. So, I took a gamble and bought a "tested good" latch on fleabay for $40. Did NOT fix the problem.

Is there a definative way to test if it's the latch mechanism micro switch failing versus the handle microswitch?

I'm tempted to buy a new latch mechanism, AND a new handle microswitch just so I would feel reasonably confident of fixing this issue, but I hate throwing parts at an issue.

If your window does not drop when operating the door handles, it's most likely the window regulator.

??

I'm not aware of the window regulator being a common issue when trying to troubleshoot the door open - window drop issue.

I do have a new data point to add. I discovered to day that when I have the door open, I can push the window down about 1/2 inch. If I close the door with the window down that little bit, it pops back up as soon as it's closed.

So I guess technically my issue is just that it doesn't drop when being opened.

It's a very common issue... This thread might help:

Or replace the regulator which is the best fix.

Does it beep or some warning lights?
