TX Fluid

I have two pictures of old transmission fluid attached. The transmission has 40k miles. Is this an unusual amount of metal? The first shows a faint metallic mixture. There are bubbles in it which are not of concern. The second shows particulate. Thanks!

The only way you'd know for sure, or much of anything, is to have sent a sample to a lab like Blackstone for a UOA (used oil analysis).

What was on the magnet? If its just sludge and no big chunks yiu should be ok.

I just changed my trans fluid and it looked similar. I don't think its anything to worry about.

In my experience, when there is a serious problem there is no mistaking the metal in the fluid!

I changed my oil two years ago when the Boxster 6-speed transmission had 21,882 miles on it. The below is the Blackstone Lab report & mentions some higher metal levels.

Awesome. Thank you all. The magnet just had sludge. I will do an oil analysis per the recommendations here. Happy new year.

Don't waste your money if the collection container you used in your photo was dirty/contaminated. Do it the next time.
