First time driving a 'Box' in the snow.
 

I know, not an earth-shattering snowfall like you guys up north get, but still a pretty good little drop that's slimy and slushy, and freezes the minute it hits the ground.
It hit in the middle of my trip to the next town to pick up a relative and take them to the tire shop to pick up their car.
The Boxster handled it fine, stable and predictable, long as you kept it slow. I can't say the same for the idiots around me (well, at least two idiots). One slid off of old 77 right in front of me because he failed to slow down on the S-curve. The other in an SUV, again, right in front of me, tried to-of all things-pass the car in front of her because they were only going 25mph. She quickly learned why as she spun out in slo-mo, nearly hitting all of us, and landed in the ditch on the opposite side of the road.

I got my new winter tires installed Friday morning. Forecast showed we were supposed to get some snow today and we got nothing. First time I was excited to see some snow since owning this car so I could see how well the tires would do.

The hard part about driving on snowy roads isn't necessarily avoiding crashing, it's not having other bozos crash into you! My truck has been hit twice while parked in front of my house, 8' from the pavement! I'd recommend keeping the Boxster off the road when it's slippery.

Seems like a perfect day to find a big, wide, empty parking lot and practice drifting. Just sayin'. :)

Oh yeah, nothing better than icy glazed donuts in the snow!

I have a dedicated set of snow tires, on my OEM rims. I have never had any real trouble with the Boxster in the snow. You just have to be sensible and safe, and avoid overly spirited driving. I have driven through a few blizzards, and as long as you don't hit more than 4" of snow, there is nothing to worry about. I have passed many trucks and SUV's that did not adjust their driving to the road conditions and went off the road.

Also, if you are on snow, not just salty roads make sure you rev match when you down shift.

There is not enough actual "winter weather" here through the season to justify the trouble or expense of having snow tires or chains. I choose All Seasons typically.
Two hours later the sun came out and that mess was gone as suddenly as it hit. The million-dollar-per-year broadcast weathermen are beyond useless. They love to play up how awesome they are, but the stations would be better off using monkeys with tarot cards. None of it was predicted until it was nearly on top of us.
And yes, I did pick a safe area to test the limits of the car. ;) It drifted easily, but was just as easy to bring under control... I assume for the same reasons it's easy to control on dry pavement. :)
