What do you hear most often? Ferrari? Lambo?

What do you hear most often?

"Wow! You have an awesome looking car! Is that a _________?

RedTele58 12-10-2014 11:59 AM

I drove my black '99 to Amarillo to look at a '71 914. The 914 owner looked at my Boxster and said "Nice Miata - that's really cool looking."...

BIGJake111 12-10-2014 12:02 PM

One buddy likes to tease me and call mine a civic. I've gotten lambo once or twice with my speed yellow car.

jsceash 12-10-2014 12:03 PM

The most common comment is. Nice car what is it?
Second most common. Must be nice?

woodsman 12-10-2014 01:20 PM

There eyes get big and they stare, smile. Some say nice Porsche! Nobody has ever called it a Lambo or Ferrari. When I get my Dino I think they'll be Totally clueless...

j.fro 12-10-2014 02:37 PM

With the hard top, Rennzenn graphics, and aerokit2, most folks ask, "What is it?" Lots know it is a Porsche, but few recognize that it's a Boxster.

rick3000 12-10-2014 02:56 PM

I have only had this happen once, and they thought it was a Ferrari. A lot more people ask, what is it?

Joe B 12-10-2014 03:13 PM

None of the above. My neighbor thought it was a Maserati !

Timco 12-10-2014 03:16 PM

Most recognize the Porsche. Then it's "can I ask, is that a $100k car??"

OKCShooter 12-10-2014 03:35 PM

Miata...I heard that most.

KRAM36 12-10-2014 06:06 PM

People ask me if it's a 911 more then anything.

So what's his release date from the hospital?

Mostly I get simply "nice car!".
Although my next door neighbor (female, in her 30s) blew my mind when she asked:
"That's cute! What is it?"
"Thanks, it's a Porsche"
"Who makes that?"
"........Um, well, Porsche"
"...................."
"It's a car maker in Germany"
"Weird, I didn't know they made cars. I just thought there were Chevys and Fords and stuff."
(and yes, that was my exact facial expression)

Fintro11 12-10-2014 09:38 PM

i have been asked a few times how much did it cost ? 100k ? and they were not joking either haha

( if they were in Australia it would be true ;) )

A guy I work with on occasion said once he doesn't believe in vaccinating his kids because the shot can give you Downs Syndrome as one of the side effects.

Me.....Wat??????

kk2002s 12-11-2014 04:20 AM

I get some 'nice car', occasionally. I think mainly people don't want to be caught admiring another's car.
I did have one person ask if it was a Turbo. I think it was because he saw the side vents

Most of the compliments come in the form of people trying to some how beat me by getting ahead of me to some imaginary finish line
Sometimes it's subtle (Probably my paranoia), sometime blatant

Frodo 12-11-2014 04:27 AM

"Ferarri?" It's happened I think twice in the 9 years that I've had the car. Never Lambo or any other specific mis-identification. Have had folks openly admire the car, and speak up about it---including a guy in an old, beat-up pickup and another sittin' on a Harley at a light. BOTH of them surprised me. In my experience, it's kids that really respond to the car, especially when I'm driving top down through their neighborhood or following their school bus. It's great fun to watch their reactions. :)

I usually get the "Wow, somebody is making to much money!!" comment.

As a self-employed guy, I cannot drive that car to any job, for any reason. Not even if the truck is broke down and they have no heat.

"Well, we can see who makes the REAL money.."
"So, by how much are we over-paying you to drive THAT???"

One very rich customer..
"Oh, I had a Boxster..What year is yours?"
"2004"
"OK, 986. At least I'm not paying you too much..."

Never again will that car see a job of mine.

Heiko 12-11-2014 04:45 AM

I only got get the "nice 911" line a few times; and twice I've had older gents driving 987's ask me how I liked the new Boxster? My reply has been, "oh you mean my car that's twice the age of yours..." LOL I'm not sure what I'd say if someone called it a Miata

LOL! Overall nice lady, but sometimes I wonder! ;)

I did once have a client stare at the car and say: "I'm in the wrong end of this business."

Beer 12-11-2014 08:16 AM

I bought some tires from TireRack recently and took them to a local tire shop for mounting. The guy behind the counter asked me what year is my BMW.

Fintro11 12-11-2014 09:40 AM

I had my car parked in the schools roundabout as I was coming out of the school I notice a guy standing right beside the door talking to a woman... As I get closer it's obvious that he's pretending it's his car to get the girl. A simple excuse me and my wife and I get in the car and drove off, poor sucker

I didn't know that vaccines contained copies of everyone's 23rd chromosome.

Back on topic, what I really get asked the most is if it's AWD. I guess it's me being around the generation of Impreza and lancer Evo lovers that brings this question up so often.

Ferrari once. My favorite comment was to take my daddies car home. Funny considering I was 40 years old at the time.

Hey Woodsman, hope you don't think that you're getting away with dropping the comment about the Dino and being allowed to walk away? Talk to us buddy!

Sometimes I wonder, how it is possible, that EVERY little German kid (probably toddlers, too) recognizes a PORSCHE 10 miles against the wind/sun :D

I guess, they must suck it up with the mother-milk...I have not other explanation how else they point their little fingers and yell "PORSCHE" each time they see one...and it does not matter which model or how old it is.

"ICONIC DESIGN"

Is that a miata?...not going to happen here, ever

I live in a small town (suburb of Nashville) and there are only about 4 or 5 Porsches that I know of. Only about 2 of us that are daily drivers, so I get quite a bit of attention in mine. from people staring as I go by to drive thru workers making comments and/or asking questions. I have had a few as what kind of Porsche it was, but never ask if it was a Lambo or Ferrari. Probably because the idea of either of those cars around here is just silly.
There are dozens of Nissan GT-R's around though. We have a Nissan plant and they just started leasing GT-Rs to employees (I have heard for about $600 per month). I see at least 2 every time I go out. Bad ass cars, but I still prefer my Boxster.

although, if you drive 15 miles to Franklin, TN (one of the wealthiest areas of the county) you see tons of GT3s, Lambos, Ferraris, even 1 or 2 Bugatti Veyrons.

My wife and I both make good money, but we never drove nice cars because we don't like car payments. after we sold a restaurant we owned we were pretty flush with cash so decided to get something better than my '98 pathfinder and her '04 alero. she got a '10 Mercedes C300 4matic and I got the boxster soon after. people at work began to wonder if we had won there lottery or something, a friend/co-worker had several of them convinced that I had started doing porn movies. this is particularly funny considering that I am 50 years old, bald with a bit of a belly.

mine is a '01 boxster s with high miles. it is in perfect condition though and anyone that doesn't know Porsche would guess it was only a year or two old. was talking to a young guy at the gym that had an '03 350Z, he says, "yeah, I wish I could afford a porsche". I ask him what he paid for his Z, he said $15k. I told him I only paid $8K for my boxster. granted I got a good deal on mine, but he could easily get a boxster similar to his 350Z for $15K around here.

He had such a sad look on his face I felt bad for him
