Front trunk lamp failure

Now and then the lamp is off then on, etc. Seems to have a mind of it's own and now will not come on at all. Not a bulb or connection to the plug issue. Anyone had similar issues? Is it like programed to be on only with the door unlocked, top down, radio on or some other silly restriction?? I find that German cars are just not designed the same as cars from the rest of the world!!

I believe they are programmed to go off after a period of time so as not to drain the battery. If I leave my trunk open for an extended period of time the light will go out and then reset later. Not sure what the time period is. Another safety device to protect us from ourselves.

I've noticed with my Boxster that the trunk light in the front compartment will not turn on unless the rear trunk is also open. Not sure why but maybe see if yours is the same way?

I'll check that. Weird cars, aren't they. Thanks.....

Yeah, sometimes you just stare at it and go "hmmm..." Lol.

You're right. I just opened the rear and then the front and it was lighted. I'll check the Owner's Manual soon to see what it says about this. Bentley doesn't say anything about it that I can find.

Mine work in the "normal" way.. Maybe a wiring mixup?

Viper10000 11-23-2014 05:33 PM

I guess that is possible. I'm the 3rd owner of mine, it's an '02 base with 138,000 miles. I'm sure something could have happened in there somewhere at some point.

This is not normal. Your frunk microswitch may be out ;)

Also note that sometimes the lights won't come on if the car has been sitting unlocked for a while, or if the trunks are unlocked from the floor switches (if the door is closed).

I'll have to play around with those scenarios as well. I remember opening the trunk a lot without opening the door. Thanks for the input.
