Intermittent start

Porsche 986 S 2004. Turn key and many times no cranks. Sometimes it cranks and starts straight away. Sometimes when I turn the key to start and nothing happens I have to remove the key to try to try to start again as it won't let me turn it to start engine. Are these symptoms of a faulty key switch? Thanks.

Yes. Key switch. If the lights on the climate controls dim as it starts then battery.
